SUMMARY:Can Small Farmers Survive Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA)?
DESCRIPTION:The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) was signed into law in 2014\, and plans are being made by local groundwater sustainability agencies (GSAs) in the most water-scarce regions of California to comply with the regulations. This webinar will explore two unintended consequences of SGMA\, as well as some possible remedies: \n(1) The increased well drilling that is happening in advance of the restrictions SGMA will impose and threatening both small farmers and residential wells in rural communities; and\n(2) The lack of inclusion of small-scale farmers and socially-disadvantaged farmers in the local SGMA planning and implementation process \nSpeakers:\nDave Runsten\, Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF)\nAnnie Main\, Good Humus Farm\nNgodoo Atsume\, Clean Water Action \nModerator: Brian Shobe\, California Climate & Agriculture Network (CalCAN) \nThis webinar is co-hosted by the California Climate & Agriculture Network (CalCAN) and Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) and will run from 10-11 am.
