Can Small Farmers Survive Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA)?

The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) was signed into law in 2014, and plans are being made by local groundwater sustainability agencies (GSAs) in the most water-scarce regions of California to comply with the regulations. This webinar will explore two unintended consequences of SGMA, as well as some possible remedies:
(1) The increased well drilling that is happening in advance of the restrictions SGMA will impose and threatening both small farmers and residential wells in rural communities; and
(2) The lack of inclusion of small-scale farmers and socially-disadvantaged farmers in the local SGMA planning and implementation process
Speakers:
Dave Runsten, Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF)
Annie Main, Good Humus Farm
Ngodoo Atsume, Clean Water Action
Moderator: Brian Shobe, California Climate & Agriculture Network (CalCAN)
This webinar is co-hosted by the California Climate & Agriculture Network (CalCAN) and Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) and will run from 10-11 am.
